[The Mission Hill K–8 School is closing in a few days, and all its students are transferring to other schools. School closings are hard on students. Sixth grader Angel D. wrote this open letter to Mayor Michelle Wu and top Boston Public Schools officials. He asked that we use only his first name and last initial.]

Dear Mayor Wu, Superintendent Cassellius, and School Committee Chair Robinson,

When I was younger it was hard for me to pay attention in classes. I played around a lot and it was hard to focus. I feel like it’s been a long time since then, and in my opinion I have really improved a lot. At Mission Hill, I am in a better school than my old one. I wish this school wasn’t closing so I could spend so much more time in it. Also, I have so many memories in it. I have about three to four years worth of memories. And for all of the time I have been here I have loved the school and how it helped me, even when sometimes it has been a little hard.

It makes me sad knowing this school that was really helping and working for me is going to be closed. I will really miss it and everyone that I knew in it. I am so sad I have to leave it. I don’t know what my new school will be like, but one thing I do know is that I really hope it will have the same things this school has, like math. I hope they will have the same music classes as this school, and the same P.E. class, and I hope it will have every subject that this school has. I hope any problems are fixed and Mission Hill School is opened again.

I hope that when I am older I can buy this school and the basketball court across the street, so that other kids can have the nice and fun experience that I got to have when I was younger. I really wish I could spend at least one more year here and I hope that my new school can support me like this school has, and I hope it can support my behavior and is very welcoming. I hope I really like my new school so I can be happy again.

Sincerely,

Angel D.
